PRIVACY POLICY

We store or access information on devices, such as cookies and process personal data and standard information sent by a device for the purposes of services we provide. You may click to consent to our processing for such purposes. Alternatively, you may click to refuse to consent, or access more detailed information and change your preferences before consenting. Your preferences will apply to this website only. Please note that some processing of your personal data may not require your consent, but you have a right to object to such processing.

If you use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, we store a random device identifier in an encrypted cookie that is only used on those pages. HMRC requires software to send this identifier, together with details such as your IP address, browser, screen size and time zone, with every request so it can help prevent fraud. The cookie is strictly necessary for that service, contains no other information about you, and cannot be read by other scripts on our website.

Emails we send

When you create an account we email you about your account, for example to verify your address or reset your password.

We also send a small number of reminders about your tax return: if you sign up but don't start one, if you stop part-way through, and as the 31 January filing deadline approaches. You get at most three reminders for each tax year, none after the deadline, and every one has an unsubscribe link.

Service messages about a return you have paid for or submitted, such as HMRC not accepting it or HMRC accepting it, are sent even if you unsubscribe from reminders, because they are part of the service.

After HMRC accepts your return, we may ask you to review DTax Filer on Trustpilot, at most once every 60 days. You can unsubscribe from these requests in the same way as reminders.

How we measure our emails

Our emails contain a small image that is unique to each email. When your email program loads it, we record that the email was opened, when, and how many times. If you click a link in one of our emails, we record the click and when it happened. If you are signed in to your account when you click, that also confirms your email address.

We don't record your IP address, location or device when you open an email. Some email programs, including Apple Mail, load images automatically, so an open doesn't always mean you read the email, and if your email program blocks images we see no open at all.

We use this only to see whether our emails are useful and to improve them, and we keep it for 13 months. To stop it, unsubscribe using the link in any of our emails, or email support@dtaxfiler.co.uk. Once you have unsubscribed, the service messages we still send you have no tracking image.
